This is a do-as-I-say not a do-as-I-do agenda. Campolongo's Yellow Cab drivers in Pittsburgh are a classic collection of rag-tag cabbies as you can find. If I get a chance, I'll get some digital photos of them hanging out in the holding lot at the airport - it'll look like a gathering in a Hooverville under a bridge somewhere.
"Standards" has always been a swear word in most non-technical industries because the fear has always been that once the industry recognizes a standard then Congress will enshrine them in law or regulation. How do you set "standards" for independent contractors and have them remain independent contractors, if they ever were to begin with? Methinks that this hasn't been thought through - "standards" is a neat buzzword, but what is he talking about - not wearing t-shirts with holes in them, or ponytails, or sweatpants, able to speak English, not refusing short runs from the airport, or what? I see he also tossed a bone to the limousine segment of the association - here we go with the Gas Guzzler agenda again.

I was on my way out the door to attend the National Vet Party Conference in Tampa when this very educational post popped up. Now I know why Solombrino called and told me that NLA members in Florida didn't want the NLA to help me with the Federal Lawsuit against Tampa. The crap rolls uphill in this case. Just connect the dots, birds of a feather flock together.

It would be interesting to run every TLPA & NLA board member on the web & see who else has such a "colorful" past.

If I was holding a TLPA or NLA membership card, it would be visiting Mr BIC Lighter real fast. Can't talk trash when a little article is written about the industry with leaders like this running it , can we?

Another interesting tie in is that Boroday & Celestino are listed as board members for the Florida Ground Transportation Association (FGTA). The web still shows Mongello (who was pushing the TLPA on this site) as prez with Boroday as Sr Director though LCT reports she is now the prez. Celestino who runs the cab operations with the Taxi Baron who is featured in the news article is listed as the Director for the FGTA.

Now let it be understood that the FGTA is the main body of the WFLA,GOLA,ACLA & FLA which are the regional limousine associations.

How does a Taxi Queen get in so tight with the limo industry? Who is really calling the shots? The Queens or the Baron?

A little more on the TLPAs pick to "Elevate the industry's image for members"

    http://www.newtimesbpb.com/issues/19...news/news.html

Pay special attention to paragraph 7 & the last.

I posted awhile back that I had my money on the taxi barons kicking the limo suits asses & this is a perfect example. Can't mess with a street fighter & this guy has done what is needed & the system provided to build an empire. The Taxi industry will always win unless this industry learns how to spot the infiltrators and toss them to the curb.

The TLPA is a Taxi based organization with a Taxi mentality of creating empires not of many small operators cooperating with each other.

There is no room for politics within the industry!

Listed under TLPA's Limo & Sedan Division
    Committee Chairs
    Nick Cambas Trans Star

    http://www.yellowcabfla.com/ctgtranstar.html

    Hit "Fares"

    The address says it all

Don't know if it is to his credit but, there is minimal regulation in his operating area (Clearwater/St Petersburg). Why a great majority of HCPTC certificate holders are based there.

Another company represented on this committee?

The picture is becoming clear to Gunny !! Seriously though, it would be interesting to do a city by city study in this country to check out the relationship of the taxi barons with the regulators and politicans. I already know how it works in Beirut on the Bayou.

    Great Idea!!!

Also, how many of these Taxi Czars have infiltrated the limo associations on the local & national level should be explored & reported. As the 2 Queens in Florida show, there is a tight connection with a major Taxi Czar with a devious past & the Queens run the FGTA & one sits on the NLA Board. The one Queens husband now runs the FLA. They are influencing not only local politicians to their own benefit but also all the way up to the NLA. And this is the crap uncovered for one State!

Bet you Texas is just as dirty.

The TLPA is well represented on the Limo Digest Advisory Board. The search is on for all taxi infiltrators where ever they may be perched.

Don't look now, but TLPA President Jamie Campolongo's flagship company in Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh Transportation Company, filed Chapter 11 on December 16.
