Here's a little something that a tech support agent for Godaddy directed me to...

I think SEO can be like the fitness industry. There will always be people trying to sell you the newest fads that just came out. New things come and go, but the fundamentals that worked many many years ago can and will get you the results you need. Most people are worried about some small trick that might get you a tiny bit of results and overlooking something that might account for 50% of your success.

SEO 2014 & Beyond was a good first book for those that have little to no experience with SEO (like me).

Another good book that I'm reading right now is SEO Fundamentals from The SEO University, Course #1, by R.L. Adams. I paid $3.99 for the Kindle version through Amazon.com. There's a little more practical knowledge in this book and a little bit more about strategy about how and what to aim to get ranked for.
