Default Bill To Place Florida Limos Under State Regulation Has Been Filed

Included is a preemption clause taking all regulation away from locals.

And yes, I have the months old emails going back-n-forth with the filing Senator.

So Florida does not have a state regulation or agency for transportation? Like here I have a "Public Utility Commission" division of Motor carrier.....

Each municipality in Florida has the option of initiating regulation. The result has been ops transporting their people between multiple counties/cities/towns etc having to obtain multiple permits and licenses. Often the low incidents of transport calls results in operators not obtaining permits for particular areas leaving local residents without options or as in many cases, they are forced to pay highway robbery rates commonly associated with monopolies.

This will help UberX/Lyft as they like slipping in under the limo laws and not the taxi ones.

Uber has their fingerprints on this for sure Steve. Due to market entry restrictions and minimum pricing controls Uber has been effectively shut out of the Florida market. This aside, all Florida operators on the public safety soapbox should support this law 100% as it covers all operations not just those in major metro areas and the insurance, vehicle and driver regs outdo the locals who do regulate the market. Absent from the law is market entry restrictions and the inability for consumers to negotiate prices.

"The result has been ops transporting their people between multiple counties/cities/towns etc having to obtain multiple permits and licenses." - what a nightmare - I guess I best not complain with having to deal with just 3 states and the FMCSA then!

Default His & Hers Limo of Tampa Opposes Bill To Place All Fl Limo Under State Regulation

His & Hers Limousine located in the Tampa Bay area plus a slew of other limo and taxi operations went to Tallahassee to oppose the Limo Bill that would effectively provide for safety regulation of all limo operations in Florida v. the hodgepodge currently in effect with many counties not regulating which places the consumer at risk. In attendance at the committee meeting also was Dave Shaw of the NLA.

My question to His & Hers limo, the NLA as well as all others opposing the state taking over the regulation is what do they have against all consumers being afforded safe limousine transportation?

BTW, the Bill passed the Committee.

So does this mean it will become law. I tried reading the bill but I didn't pass the bar exam. Will this mean one permit and that's it no more taking the whole fleet to Orlando, Jacksonville and Port Canaveral once a year for bullshit ?

Not yet. Need a few more hurdles but Senator Rubio just published an op piece blasting the taxicab protection racket in Miami including the $70 min charge limo ops must charge which adds fuel to the fire.

If passed, the law provides that limos would need $1 mil liability, sets max age limits for vehicles, drivers qualifications and a host of other safety measures. Most important is a "preemption" which will prohibit locals from requiring permits and other BS as they now impose.

What's not to like about this? Good luck, I hope it goes through.
