    Default Cabin Air Filter

So I am investigating used vehicles for my niece and I noticed that even econo cars as far back as 2008 have cabin air filters. Some are even so hard to replace that it it's recommended that a mechanic do it.

Got me thinking. Do you think you even need cabin air filters? People have been living without them for all these years and no one is dying on the side of the road.

Looked into some scientific research on the subject and the thing they are most worried about for peoples respiratory systems are these nano particles that the cabin air filters do a very good job at catching. Further went on to say that the highest amounts of these particles were present when a car was in traffic and had windows up. then I thought well when I am driving in my car I usually have my windows open and avoid traffic so no biggie. Then I realized that when I am driving a limo it's the exact opposite!

Always in traffic with the windows up to keep the noise down and HVAC system going full bore sucking in them nano particles!

Wierd that the top of the line luxury model for lincoln has never had a cabin air filter? Does the new MKT (or what ever it is called) have it?

I would sometimes get headaches after driving for a while just always thought it was from stress. May have been a result of nano particles says this research. I think the limousine industry has taken 2 years off my life!! Thats ok the years are at the end those are not that much fun any way ;-)

Anyone ever look into an after market system? Do they exist? May actually be a good selling point. Our limos have the cleanest air in town!

Oh and what about workmans comp.? Think a respiratory issue could ever be blamed on having to work in and unsafe enviorment? Happen in CA for sure! Lol!

Most cars except for the LTC have cabin air filters. I change the one in my wifes car once a year. You can see the dirt build up after a year. Nowadays they even have some that have febreeze on them.

On the LTC, remember to keep the tray below the windshield on the passenger side clean.

Even diesel fumes is now know to cause Cancer. But that does not mean I will stop driving my diesel bus.

Put your A/C on "MAX" - it recycles the air in the car. Then no outside air fumes, runs cooler (using cold air to cool again), and easier on A/C unit parts and engine and fuel mileage.

That is what they say is dangerious. Starting with bad air then recycling it without a filter. Well I guess it will eventually get clean as your lungs filter out the nano particles! LOL

You know what cracks me up about California (mind you: the majority of the Californianans on here seem to be fine-outstanding people), they are the leaders on banning just about everything because its "bad for you", but yet they are the leader in legalizing pot. Oh well, I have been exposed to lime dust, mill dust, coal tar fumes, diesel fumes, tobacco, alcohol, lots of sun, butter, salt, mold, expired sour cream...not really concerned about "nano particles"! j/k.

Ok Getting back on Topic because Cedar is being silly. Hookers Illegal, what will you come up with next???

So looking into the Air Purifier Route came up with all those little cigirette lighter plug in's that look like they could not do anything.

Then Saw This one, Neat little unit. Basically a HEPA filter:
    http://www.vaporeze.com/1076582.html
Looks like it could move some air!

(EDIT: Just read some amazon reviews, concensus is it is made very cheaply, breaks easily. We would need like a professional grade one of these!)

One thing is they have a wick system where you can put some scent into the air.
Then in the faq I saw this:
"The Alertness Blend refill offers a fresh scent that will heighten your senses and focus concentration. "
What if that actually worked and you could keep your driver more alert and focused while driving?
Reduce Accidents. Insurance companies would require us to install them!! LOL

Okay guys....I have been reading a medical journal. The key is to not stress out about something like this, or nano particles, or diesel fumes, because in the end, you will never get out alive.

This looks to be the most reputable one on the market. At least it is from a manufacturer we know.

    http://www.philipsgopure.com/

    About $200.00

$40.00 cartridge refils, and they do not seem to talk about how long they last. Wonder why??
