!I am sure chauffeurs make more than 8.50 per hour in boston but not 20 per hour. When i drove in springfield,Ma i made 8.50 per hour and that was top pay at that time around 2000 or 2001 or so,but springfield is more economicly depressed than boston. Also in those days tip was never billed in to the price so i made maybe 14 per hour after tips.So if your 20 per hour includes tips than maybe a boston chauffeur makes 20 per hour or maybe a bit more.I still have never heard of a cop making more than 35k per year as a uniformed officer<br>

I'm telling you that around here, where I'm at, $15 / hour + tips is the absolute minimum that you need to pay to get a chauffeur that doesn't drool on themselves and can tie their own shoes.

Here's a Naperville (IL) Police Dept recruiting ad. Naperville is just north of where I live. STARTING pay is $60k. http://www.theblueline.com/feature/ILnaperville4.html

I swear to you, I'm not making this stuff up!

Over the state line we are a little lower (not by much), but we also pay our chauffeurs by the hour for everything (including airport transfers). When figured out, we pay a little higher than other companies here for AP runs, much higher for concerts, weddings, etc. For your niche, Andrew, you would have to be on the higher end of pay, I would assume.

$12 an hour with tip included may not be legal. You still have to follow wage laws or you will lose your butt in court. If I tipped $20 an hour and a total of $12 per hour made it back to the chauffeur, that is stealing, plus you would not be paying minimum wage.

1.The tip is already included in the price as a flat rate and there was no percentage formula used in determining where fee ends and tip begins.our website says and i quote on the phone chauffeur fee is already included so tipping is never necasary. So there is no tip, we just pay more than the minimun wage plus tips that other companies in the area pay. Also when i do hire someone they are free to take tips if they are offered and if a extra tip was put on the credit card the driver would get all of it.once in a while a do get a tip even though the chauffeur fee is included already and future employees would be encouraged to keep such money if given unlike boston coach we would not fire a driver for colllecting tips if one was given.
2.we dont add 15/20% to the bill we just raised prices a bit and said no tipping needed on our website and we used no formulas to determin how much each type of price be raised we did it based more on how often we do a type of job
3.Our company would never be able to offer even part time hours, there is justb not enough business in vermont.i would say maybe 5 hours a month is most we could ever offer. This is for a someone who is retired and wants a bit of spending money once in a while or someone who needs extra money by working a weekend once in a while
4.Vermont and western,MA and southwestern,NH are very depressed economicly right now and 12 per hour would be 25 and hour were most of you are from

I live in Suffolk County, New York. It's not uncommon for Police Officers to earn a base of six figures and overtime in the 30-40K range. I grew up in Vermont, I know that things are a bit depressed there but not nearly as bad as you are making it out. I know what I've been offered if I move to Burlington.

Wow, excellent pay in Suffolk. Most of the advertised starting pay of police also do not include supplemental pay of federal, state and local government. There is also hazardous duty pay here for certain positions.

    Hello everyone
We are out here in Southern California and I can relate. It sometimes is an obstacle looking for a good chauffeur. I will definitely look into the police officers/retired military. In the mean time do any of you southern L.A. area operators recommend anyone that looking for some part time work.

So, I did an online search of police salaries in my city and found the link to all the salaries...

    http://www.bakersfieldcity.us/police/index.htm

I don't know if the hyperlink will hold above when I post this. Police officers in Bakersfield start out at $24.21 to $29.49 per hour. I cannot tell you why I have police officers, state parole officers and California Highway Patrol officers that have worked for us for years and years. Maybe they like doing the work. Maybe they like being backstage. We pay our chauffeurs an hourly wage of $13.25 to $16.25 per hour. However, in a tipped industry, let's take an average ride in a limo of 5-hours @ $80.00 per hour. A 20% gratuity on a $400 bill is $80. So, let's take an average of $14.75/hour. A five hour job would pay roughly $95.88 based on 6.5 hours of on-the-clock time. If the client tips $80.00 on top of wages of $95.88 the total pay to $175.88 for 6.50 hours of work. That works out to a gross of $27.06 per hour which is in range of their normal salary without the risk of getting shot. In one case, an officer started with me in 1997 after he decided he wanted to buy a Harley and his wife told him he must take a p/t job and pay for it in cash from the p/t job. Well, it is 15 years later and I still don't see him riding a Harley.
