LTC Ignition coils

I've had 2 ignition coils go bad on my LTC in the last 6 months. My mechanic recommends changing them all (and I agree) but those little suckers are about $75 each where he gets them. Anybody know where to get some good ones for a better price? You can get a set of 8 for less than $100 on ebay, plus shipping, but that sounds a little too cheap. Thanks

Buy those coils and you will find out why they are so cheap.

sometimes the coils are ok , just the springs and boots need to be changed. whatever the situation may be if you get new coils or change the spring and boot , make sure your put a dab of dielectric grease on the tip of the boot, this ensures a better connection between the spark plug and coil , also protects the rubber from high cylinder head temperatures. goodluck

Had the same problem, I only replaced the ones that needed to be replaced. I have found thru trial and error to only use manufacture products.

I bought mine locally at O'Reillys for $56 each, they have a lifetime warranty and come with the boots and springs(a must). Hopefully you are changing your plugs too, I recommend Motorcraft on those.

Also, the mechanic, if at a shop, is probably getting a cheap coil and marking it up.

It is the heat that kills the coils, and the cheaper the part, the sooner it will fail.

I'm not getting the super cheap ones and all the plugs have been replaced. I'm looking at the Accel hi performance coils. They run about $30 each and amazon has a set of 8 for $180.

Sounds like a good price but as long as you don't expect any performance gains vs oem, accel makes decent products.

The cheap ones on ebay are great. I just had them on 4 vechicles since last year. After 150,000 miles it is cheap insurance to replace the ignation coils with the spark plugs

Replaced all 8 on our '00 LTC last year with Jeg's brand (on sale now for $20 each). They have been doing well. Had to replace #3 this year, but the rest have been fine.

Change the spark plugs often and your shouldn't ever have to replace the coils, and as stated earlier, use dielectric grease.

We've used Jeg's also for years. Highly recommend, and price for the quality can't be beat. The dialectic grease is key.
