Thread: 2001 Ford Excursion Repainting/Rework

    Default 2001 Ford Excursion Repainting/Rework

I have just bought a 2001 Ford Excursion V-10 Limo to add to my fleet for the partying rentals, proms, concerts, etc. When I decided to buy, the limo needed quite a bit of attention. I am in the process of repainting the outside stretch panels, and I know I always enjoy everyone elses repairs and their quality of work. I figure I would share my own....

I had to buy it....one mans garbage is another mans treasure!

Day 1: Mask off the stretch panel and begin to remove the paint, bondo, leaves, bugs, etc. Prepwork takes time and annoyances...but well worth it in the end.

This is the state of the limo after day 1 @ 11:00pm at night. (11/17)

Yep, you have some work to do, but it will be worth it in the end.

Can you post pics of the entire vehicle?

I absolutely love my V-10 Excursion. It is such a solid work horse. I'm interested to see your progress. I got an error message when I tried to view the "after day one" attachment. Can you re-post it? Good luck with your project. Also, wondering who built it?

    Day 2

Work was short as the Bears game was on last night. Tonight (Day 3) will be a long night. So far, the body panels are not showing any noticable imperfections which has me wondering why the builder used so much bondo. Nevertheless, its just about completely off and I can get to sanding and prepping for the application of primer tonight. I added a couple photos of the right side of the car with the rust pockets showing, and a quick shot of the interior.....which will be my 2nd project on this car. Should be fun. Ill keep posting as the work progresses.

Fairfax Limo....this limo was purchased in Virginia last week (Norfolk area), and the builder is shown as 21st Century Coachworks.....I dont know much about them...which probably makes sense. This limo is a "so-so" vehicle. My plans is to take it from "so-so" to "eye-catching".

I've seen people put a 2010 super duty front clip on them to bring it up to date.

The clip is something I have been looking at on some sites for purchase.....what I am looking for is how to get a "mirror" headliner ceiling shown in stretchlimochicago's SUV interior picture above. I am not too convinced on the current headliner in the car, but may work for now.

Can you imagine waiting in front of a church running the limo to keep the ac going and all you can here and smell is a power stroke. I love our v10.

It puts the gross vehicle weight way over the limit of the car when stretched. The gas motor weighs alot less.
