Default NLA Political Action Committee Info

    Happy New Year to everyone,

I’m sure most of you are as happy as I am to say goodbye to 2009. Here is hoping that 2010 is a better year for all of us. I started this New Year being reelected to the NLA Board of Directors for another 3 year term and I want to thank all of you who supported my reelection. In fact, thanks to all of you who participated in this year’s NLA election. It is important to our association as well as to our country that everyone who is eligible to vote goes to the polls and votes, every time. That way we will indeed have representative governance that reflects the membership’s and the country’s wishes. The central theme that I heard over and over again of the Scott Brown historic win last month in Massachusetts was people saying that for the first time they felt like their vote really mattered.

Your financial support for political candidates running for elective office who support legislative initiatives that benefit our industry also matters. I am writing to you today to ask you to make a personal donation to the NLA PAC Fund. The NLA needs your financial help to protect small business owners in the chauffeured transportation industry by supporting those political candidates who support us. The National Limousine Association is making a difference in the policy and political process affecting our industry, and we need to strengthen our Political Action Committee (PAC) to make a stronger impact in Washington, especially during this important mid term election year.

Last year’s Day on the Hill day in June was our most successful ever, but many members commented on how our involvement in the political process compares to that of some of the organizations we are up against in Washington. Despite the progress we’ve made over the last few years, I am sorry to report that political involvement remains one of NLA’s most pressing areas in need of improvement.

Right now, the National Limousine Association is fighting more legislative abuses and regulatory infringements than ever before in the history of the organization, such as:

DOT rulemaking and legislative changes affecting 9 to 15 passenger vehicles
Discriminatory airport and seaport fees and regulations - RIDE Act violations
Threats to free enterprise itself- Employee Free Choice Act (Card Check) open public voting with arbitration mandates for compliance
Risk to company survival- restrictive language regarding corporate travel/meetings

Our opponents on these issues are very involved in the political process and we must use all of the tools available to us to make our voice heard on Capitol Hill. Although our PAC is growing, frankly, it pales in comparison to our competition. For example, a single rental car company alone in the last campaign cycle raised eighteen times more for their PAC than did our entire association.

We need to insure that our needs are addressed and that chauffeured transportation policy is not neglected or rejected by Washington policy makers. One of the best ways to do this is to strongly support financially those Members of Congress who share our priorities and fight to protect them. Other businesses in our industry have recognized this and have responded by creating PACs, contributing to candidates who are supportive of their issues, and being proactive in the political process- as illustrated by the following PAC table:

It is a monumental battle that comes with significant costs. Some costs, ones deemed critical to success such as support of those lawmakers who champion the causes of chauffeured transportation, cannot be paid by the general fund or by volunteerism. Rather, as dictated by federal regulations, they must be paid by the personal funds of NLA members, as corporate funds are not allowed for PAC contributions.

I am asking that every member of the National Limousine Association donate at least $25 per month or more for the next year to the NLA Political Action Committee. If we do this, $100,000 or more will be raised in a year’s time. Simply stated, there has never been a more important time to support the politicians that are pro business and support the limousine industry. One mighty arsenal to help us fight, and win, the battle at hand for you and for all NLA members!

I will be calling many of you personally to ask you to donate to our cause. Please fill out the attached donation form and make a significant monthly commitment so that I don’t have to call so many people. With 2,000 members, I will be hard pressed to get to all of you, but if that is what it takes, then I will do my best to do it.

Thank you for your consideration. Please do not hesitate to email me or call me if you have any questions. Your comments and assistance will be much appreciated, and our collective efforts are for naught without your participation and support.

    Sincerely,

    Dawson

Funny, because I have a some politicians that use me and the typical ratio is 2R:1D. But to be honest with you, my political affiliation is determined by which is riding in the car.

Considering Roscoe Bartlett co-sponsored the RIDE Act with Andrews from NJ that was pretty weak showing to him.
I want to die while asleep like my grandfather,
not screaming in terror like the passengers in his car.

I live on an island of Red in a sea of Blue.

The Baptists will have air-conditioned Hell before I EVER vote for a Democrat.

(and yes, I'm an exile from the Peoples' Republic of Massachusetts [even though my second citizenship is, and always will be, in Red Sox Nation {anybody left out there I haven't alienated yet?}])

Better the occasional faults of a party living in the spirit of charity than the consistent omissions of a party

    JFK.
    The spirit of charity, indeed.

No wealthy family in America has done more to capitalize on human frailty and pathos than Old Joe Kennedy and his pathetic brood. Certainly the sins of the father were more than visited on the children in this case.
IMO, nothing more than a spoiled batch of self-indulgent and self-righteous hypocrites.
