    Default Anyone Offer Gift Certificates?

Just wondering if anyone out there offers gift certificates for your services? I am thinking about it. Either a dollar amount or a pre-paid package.

I do and have an expiration date on them. Only valid for a year or two at the most. Over the last ten years I have had three totaling about $1100 that were never used.

We offer gift certificates through a local radio station and they handle everything. I donít have to do a thing, they make and design them and advertise all with no out of pocket expense to me. Radio stations love to barter too.

Jon, I have written several articles about G/C's in the industry. Go to LCTMag.com and click on "Articles" and then use the search feature to search for Gift Certificates.

I am a true believer in the marketing value they offer.

Let me clear up a misconception for everyone. A gift certificate that is PURCHASED, meaning a customer gives you money for the value of it, can never expire. You got the money and the value of the certificate will not change until you deliver the service.

On DONATED gift certificates where the people pay NOTHING for it, you can make any expiration your little heart desires. They are out nothing when it expires.

Only about 30% of all certificates are EVER redeemed. Yet, if you give them to radio stations, public events, charity events, charity auctions, reverse auctions, grand prizes etc. etc., the promotional value of the mention is worth hundreds and maybe even thousands of dollars.

    Use them!

Right on Brandon! You are playing the game right. I hope you track every one in a spreadsheet with a unique number, charity donated too, date donated, date redeemed and the all important - ADD ON sales. Those hours they buy. At the end of the year, when you compare the number of certs donated vs. redeemed and add-on sales - they become a no brainer.

I just did my 2009 stats today.

    Issued - 217
    Redeemed - 61
    Add-On Sales - $6213.00
