Default A message to NLA Members from the NLA

    Dear NLA Members,

We need your help to protect small business owners in the chauffeured transportation industry. The National Limousine Association is making a difference in the policy and political process affecting our industry, and we need to strengthen our Political Action Committee (PAC) to make a stronger impact in Washington.

Our Capitol Hill day this past June 9 was our most successful ever, but many members commented on how our involvement in the political process compares to that of some of the organizations we are up against in Washington. Despite the progress we’ve made over the last few years, I am sorry to report that political involvement remains one of NLA’s most pressing areas in need of improvement.

Right now, the National Limousine Association is fighting more legislative abuses and regulatory infringements than ever before in the history of the organization, such as:

    · Unfair competition - AVIS/ WeDriveU proliferation

    · Discriminatory airport and seaport fees - RIDE Act violations

    · Threats to free enterprise itself - Employee Free Choice Act

    · Risk to company survival - Ban on TARP recipient travel/meetings

    · Inequitable vehicle sales tax - Gas Guzzler

Our opponents on these issues are very involved in the political process and we must use all of the tools available to us to make our voice heard on Capitol Hill. Although our PAC is growing, frankly, it pales in comparison to our competition. For example, a single rental car company alone in the last campaign cycle raised eighteen times more for their PAC than did our entire association.

We need to ensure that our needs are addressed and that chauffeured transportation policy is not neglected or rejected by Washington policy makers. One of the best ways to do this is to strongly support those Members of Congress who share our priorities and fight to protect them. Other businesses in our industry have recognized this and have responded by creating PACs, contributing to candidates who are supportive of their issues, and being proactive in the political process- as illustrated by the following PAC table:

Name of Connected Organization and money raised:

    United Transportation Union
    $3,021,626

    Enterprise Rent-A-Car Company
    $2,166,110

    Trucking Political Action Committee
    $935,753

    Transportation Trades Department AFL-CIO
    $150,614

    American Association of Airport Executives
    $113,652

    American Bus Association
    $96,920

    Airports Council International-North America
    $88,698

    National Business Travel Association
    $86,903

    Air Transportation Association of America
    $68,456

    National Air Transportation Association
    $59,950

    Taxicab, Limousine & Paratransit Association
    $52,060

    Avis/Budget Group
    $42,546

    National Limousine Association
    $12,829

It is a monumental battle that comes with significant costs. Some costs, ones deemed critical to success such as support of those lawmakers who champion the causes of chauffeured transportation, cannot be paid by the general fund or by volunteerism. Rather, as dictated by federal regulations, they must be paid by the personal funds of NLA members, as corporate funds are not allowed for PAC contributions.

How much should you contribute? This is up to you. Even if half of the NLA members donated $10 per month to the NLA Political Action Committee, $100,000 could be raised in a year’s time. Simply stated, please contribute what you think is a fair amount to invest in your future. One mighty arsenal to help us fight, and win, the battle at hand for you and for all NLA members!

Thank you for your consideration. Please do not hesitate to call me or any member of the NLA Board of Directors if you have any questions. Your comments and assistance will be much appreciated, and our collective efforts are for naught without your participation and support.

    Sincerely,

    Ron Sorci
    President, National Limousine Association

What's really odd is that while all the democrats are pretty liberal, Bartlett, the only Republican listed, is one of the most conservative members of the House.

If memory serves me, Andrews and Bartlett co-sponsored the RIDE Act, that is why he received a whopping $250.00,

The NLA could easily double the $12,500 figure if they told the 100 or so operators that make this trek to DC every year, instead of coming to DC send the money you would spend on the trip and contribute to the fund. Let the board and the lobbyist walk the hill.

Yeah, I'm OK. Had to do up a Motion To Deny Respondent's Motion to Dismiss & another Motion for Summary Order on another rules challenge I intiated.

Law, Law, Law... the reading is not as comical as Sorci's plea for NLA PAC or that BS filing his company started against the Tampa kid but it must be done to continue the battle.

Practical thought + NLA + LCT = "I'm sorry, the figures you have inputted does not compute. Please try again"

Farking Lawyers. Life should be as simple as walking in front of a Judge, ask him/her to read the law, read the rules & make a farking decision if the rules are in compliance with the farking law & move on from there.

Taxpayer dollars pay lawyers to defend the illegal acts of government agencies farking the taxpayers over. Makes sense to me. Hell, I think I'll write a check to my lawyer for him to bring a lawsuit against me.

Sort of like small operators writing checks to associations whose leadership is plotting with regulators to raise operating costs to help drive the small guy further into the ground.

If it wasn't for no sense there wouldn't be any sense.
