Reading all the posts and attendant online articles about the limo fire and watching several YouTube videos I would like to see a compilation of potential emergencies a chauffeur might expect which require companies establish an action plan to ensure consistent reactions.

So, if you could talk about emergencies you have dealt with or might have to deal with, perhaps we could all benefit. As I think of negative situations, I realize this could be an expansive topic as there are multiple solutions to most situations.

!. Crashes- Frontal, side impact, rear.
2. Fires - Gasoline & electrical
3. Non-impact injuries to passengers - falls, broken bones, cuts

During our 1st prom season, we got snake-bit on a farm-out prom (that was supposed to be a cash on arrival-with a credit card in reserve) & getting a cancellation 2 days before prom, with the cc turning out to be worthless, we instituted the following policy.

All inquiries get a completed quotation/contract spelling out everything they can expect and everything we expect from our passengers.

We also insist on the Prom Promise as a requisite from each passenger. This alone differentiates us from the majority of our competition.

The parent or responsible party has to call with their credit card to reserve (we do an authorization, not capture for 50%). They then have to send a signed, scanned or faxed copy of our contract or use the Adobe sign-off.

We than require a 50% deposit in cash or check within 10 days of the phone call/contract receipt, balance in cash or check 2 weeks before prom date. If the time frame is short, we make sure to COA with the money in hand (hand-delivered if necessary). We do release the cc hold as the funds are received.

We also offer other incentives to ensure the parents they are receiving value for their cash (extra time or amenities) explaining we don't have to pay the cc fees. An extra half-hour for free is inexpensive good-will. We always try to over-deliver.

In 12 years, we've handled multiple siblings from multiple families, most recently, a call from a Mother whose son we carried to prom in 2009.

While this may not have been as bad as the limo fire nor ended tragically, it paints yet another ugly picture on our industry. When will people realize that the cheapest is NEVER the best option! Do your homework, if my kids were going on a prom you better believe I would be asking for proof in insurance, licensing and even driver information. It's time we as an industry help educate consumers, make a page on our websites that explain the do's and don'ts of hiring a limo and what they should be asking. We can either watch this industry get eaten alive by the media or fight back and do our part.

I am constantly getting greeted with the message "Failed Retrieving Data." It's been like this for days and the last backup I have from a few days ago.

While I have a manifest emailed to me every few hours, this is getting so annoying.

I'm in the process of my first build, and I'm sitting with my bus completely demo'd on the inside. Originally I was going to cover the existing seats in black vinyl, therefore utilizing the existing structure and foam. This would have left me 13 individual seats in banks of 3, 4, and 6. However, some items I want to build into the floorplan are going to eat into the space for the 13th seat, and leave me with only 12. This has left me thinking about bench seating, which I feel gives more flexibility in capacity. Is there anything I am missing, or pros/cons that I'm not seeing with going to benches (other than the cost of foam/materials to build the benches)?

For further background, this bus will be used as a personal coach only, and will not be on the open rental market.

Thanks in advance for the help
