Hi, This is my first post here. I'd like to say this is a great forum it is so nice to see so many responses to the topics discussed. You guys really keep it interesting. Btw I checked out many of your websites and most are very impressive!
I will be retired from city service soon and just need an additional income (NY is expensive).

I was wondering the best way to go about working in the business by either being an independent contractor :Buying my own vehicle or leasing one from an established company on a regular basis.
Does anyone here think it is possible to do this or work such a schedule.(Some weekends weddings etc... and morning runs (airport etc) until kids are older?
I'm also willing to buy my own vehicle (if that would be a better financial option) maybe even lease it out when I am not using it. I'd be looking to make about $800 a week for 30-35hrs work.
I have no desire to start my own full blown company with employees, 24hr calls etc... But I do enjoy getting out and driving and would be as professional as possible (A well groomed, polite, knowledge chauffeur that would impress clients and be a sought after employee/subcontractor to company owners.)
Any response would be greatly appreciated.
For additional information In the Long Island area I am in the companies charge between $90- $135 for an airport run in a TC for a trip that takes <1hr. The weddings range from 90-120hr + 20% grat.

You can do this but what state do you want to do this in? The costs of operating in certain states may not be worth the costs or the time to be a part time operator.

I live in the nyc area Long island is right past the Queens borough. Mostly middle and upper middle income. I see you are in Vegas, I assume you are going to the convention. If so enjoy, their website makes it look very interesting and informative. If I decide to do this I am considering going myself. (Always wanted to go to Vegas.)
