View Full Version : Gary Buffo

I guess there is no better time to introduce myself. I'm Gary Buffo, I own Pure Luxury Worldwide Transportation, which began operation in 1991 with 1 limousine. Today, I operate 56 vehicles, in the San Francisco Bay Area, not that this makes me any better than anyone else.
Our industry has to come together to become a STRONG entity, because many Government Agencies have began targeting us. This will truly hurt all of our bottom lines, especially the smaller operators. Our first step is to start talking about the positives in each of us, instead of just the negatives.
With that out of the way, I will say that I cannot change the entire industry, but as a group we can certainly put a dent in it. I have the pleasure of knowing some of the most extraordinary operators in our industry, from the Bay Area. Together, we joined forces and fought San Francisco International Airport, when they began to cause havic to our local operators. This kept them from destroying all of our businesses, locally.
We need to find the solutions to all of the problems with our industry. Solutions is the key word and I will certainly give 120% to every problem that haunts us. I will be the first to say that I am not in this business for me, but more so for all of us.
My personal email address is gbuffo@pureluxury.com, you are always welcome to write to me.
Thank you for the opportunity to help,
Gary Buffo

Mr. Buffo,
Do you have any prior experience in the operations of a limousine association?
Please give a quick synopses of the current problems occurring at the NLA?
Such as this illegal election and the NLA taking over the responsibility of the CTCP.

I already did my bio and you'll see that in LimoScene. I would, however, like to answer a question with a question. I hope that you do not mind.
How vehicles do you operate and in what city?

Mr. Buffo,
Although I believe my questions to be fair, and by no means where meant to be negative. I plan on asking all nominee the same questions. It seems I'll just have to wait until the LimoScene.
Is it safe to say you wont be answering any questions on the forum, because Guy previously posted that he would have some for you.
I'm just a little 2 car company in Stoughton.

Hello Gary, nice to see you in the forum.
I have to tell everyone that when I was looking to start my limousine business in Eureka, I met with several limousine operators in the San Francisco and Saramento areas. Gary Buffo was the best operator I met. Unlike the others, he actually took the time to stop and talk to me, give me advice and I even bought my first 120" tuxedo from him. Do you remember me Gary? Anyway I believe that he will be there for all of us in the limousine industry so I for one will give him my support.
By the way Gary, the car is still going strong and I am up to 3 vehicles now. Thanks for your help.

Hey Buddy,
It is a pleasure to here from you. I am excited that you have made it. It takes a very energetic person to make it in this business and I know that you had what it takes.
I will certainly be talking to you in the future and if you need anymore vehicles, or anything for that manner please do not hesitate to call (800) 626-5466.
Good Luck and Best Wishes,
Gary

Hi Gary I don't want to put you on the spot but I know there are people waiting for me to ask this.
I am sure you have seen the forum concerning the Goldberg situation and him paying back dues.
So lets forget its Goldberg and just another person. What is your opinion of someone who forgets to pay their dues for 7-8-9 years comes in pays it up then runs for the board?
Next who do you know already on the board and who do you know from the other candidates running?
Thanks Gary good luck I am behind you.

Yes Wade - It does make a difference! I like to know everybody and what they do, so if I can help make a difference to their business or their life, may I can be successful... Or, maybe they can help me with something. I am not perfect and have a lot to learn. Sorry, if I offended you.

Well, I feel they were a company that felt they were better than everyone else. They didn't need us, we needed them. But, it is pretty amazing how fast the dues are paid, when they realized the importance of the NLA and all of us. I do not feel what they did was right, but we can either let it stay in our way or jump over the hump and move foward. I am not saying to vote for him or don't vote for him, but I would certainly make sure that he is running for the board for us and not just Carey. When a company is that size, I would personally think they might have something on the plate that we should know of, before we make a decision to vote for him; if that's the case. It is so important to have the right people on the board... Is he the right person? That's for our industry to decide.
As for people I know, I am aware of many of them, however, I have only met a handful and most of those were only a handshake.
I truly feel that eveyone needs to voice their opinion about the NLA, therefore we can start fixing the problems with a goal oriented game plan. If its not being ran properly, what is the purpose of having it.
As I said before, if the industry wants me on the board, I'm there for us; not me.

I am a very honorable person and those of you who know me can say that I am certainly fit for the position.
As stated before, I am doing this for us, not me. Therefore, if you have issues or problems, please address them. They certainly need to be fixed and if they're not, there better be a good explanation of why not.

Gary -
With all due respect, I don't think the members are going to accept that kind of response given the current status of the rebellion. If you truly want to be elected as an NLA director, it is incumbent upon you to become familiar with these issues and take a position on them. Most of the issues are identified in various topics in this forum. I don't think it will be possible to be elected otherwise.

The respect is mutual, however, you have 407 posts on limos.com and I have 11. I do not live on limos.com, nor did I say that I was not FAMILIAR with the issues. As stated, "Not FULLY briefed on the issues". I like to make intelligent decisions and to do so, you need to have all the information.
Your right - There is rebellion, but lets just fix it instead of just taking about it. There are always better ways of doing things, but you must create a plan. One person cannot do everything.

Gary -
There is a plan and it is well underway. You will be contacted privately about this. You will be asked for your position and commitment to a certain course of action. If you agree, you will be supported for the board by an active group of people. If not, it is unlikely you will be elected. These are not normal times and a rebellion calls for very strong action.

Jim rebellion is sure putting it nicely. There are people who are so tired of whats going on they will just leave.
Gary candidates are going to have to answer some of these questions and on this forum.

That is what has always happened. That's why we are where we are - good people give up. We are very near success in this rebellion. Nobody should leave until at least February. The dam is about to break and sweep the rabble away. Wait until you see what happens before the end of the year! You will be greatly encouraged.

Since the NLA staff is planning to have ballots returned by January 12, this means that Gary is not going to be involved in addressing any NLA questions or issues. It would be more appropriate for him to withdraw his candidacy now. Does anyone have any contrary views?

Ya, I do! Chill out. If you have any questions or concerns, call my cell phone (707) 338-2300. There you go, am I committed.
You know I'm the only guy that is running for the board that committed to join this forum. Please keep that in mind.

Based on the responses received (or lack thereof) it is frightening that the NLA candidates have no intention on giving their positions to their constituencies.
Limos.com is an NLA Member. (Our membership expires this month and we have not made a renewal decision). When the potential board members can't take 5 minutes to voice their position and their agenda, how can anyone effectively vote for any of them?
(Don Kensey the exception)
What the heck is going on? Upon election, these candidates are supposed to serve their constituencies -- of which, many are situated right here and now. (Perhaps 130,000 user sessions per month is not enough to warrant a viable constituency?)
Actually, it doesn't matter how many people visit this site. Limos.com is an NLA Member who is providing a forum to the candidates so we, as NLA members, can make an effective evaluation and a decision. No response from any of them outside of Don Kensey and Gary Buffo, who now, will disappear for 3 weeks.
We've been pretty neutral (aka "Switzerland") throughout this whole rebellion thing however if these non-responses and lack of interest from candidates continues, our "country affiliation" may change.
The candidates have been emailed and faxed. I will have to schedule another email and another fax to see if we can get some platforms and positions out here.
All I want is information on the candidate stands so I can determine where my NLA Membership will go in Year 2001. As of now, it sits in the "on-hold" pile and will continue to do so until I hear more from the candidates.

I would suggest that you start calling some of the board members now and get brought up to speed. I have already talked to you concerning the Host Contract. If you are elected, you will have to hit the deck running. If you are going to represent the membership, you need to make yourself available and answer questions. If you don't know the answer that's ok. Just make a call. I would be happy to answer your questions. Being out of touch for three weeks won't cut it,not today with laptop computers, cell phones and e-mails.
I balance two business's a day, I usually get on Limos.com at night. Today its different, I actually had some free time.

You need to renew your membership. Limos.com is a great forum. My company has greatly benefited from your referral services.
I like to use the forum to get a feel on what's happening with the membership and the industry.
Several board members have been regulars on the forum.
Limos.com is a great place to exchange opinions and most of the time we are able to have a meaningful dialog.

Good News Guys, my trip just got postponed until January 14, 2001. So, I'm back with you.

Thank you and sorry for the inconvenience,

Gary glad to see you really have an interest, I believe John will fill you in correctly and you will see why we are at war.
It is not fair anyone to be to critical aboout you not knowing everything thats been happening as you really just joined the forum.
I do have one question, did you decide to run or were you asked by someone to run and by who?
December 17th, 2000, 01:43 PM
Couldnt let this guy slip to the #10 position.
December 17th, 2000, 02:39 PM
Gary, the best advice I can give to you since you just recently joined the forum is to spend some time reviewing the old forum subjects on the NLA. As you will see by scrolling through them there are alot of quesitons that have been asked and not answered by any NLA Board member or nominee. Review the questions, find out what you can then you will be ready to respond. Be prepared to do alot of reading as one forum has over 400 posts.
I think that if you show that you can devote enough time to read the forums and answer the questions, you will show you will have enough time to stand behind the NLA members.
Good luck and feel free to call me if I can help you at all. 1-888-244-5161
