with one or the more moronic posts we've seen in awhile. With the intelligence level being what it is among NLA members (especially those who have recently joined), it doesn't surprise me. At least people responding so far clearly understand that with NLA you get neither action nor compliance with by-laws, or the law for that matter, so there's no need to comment on how stupid this post is which suggests (finally), that NLA is incompetent and incapable of governing itself like any other corporation or as required by law, and the we should be happy with whatever inaction the directors decide to engage in. Let NLA members run a government for a few years and we'll have a police state. Is it now clear that we've given up trying to have NLA run in an organized fashion.

The point of the poll was to find out how many members want the association run in the anal-retentive fashion you would demand versus the informal way most small business people run their companies.
By the way, JHJ, have I ever personally insulted you? Ever called you a moron? I know I have voiced great opposition to more than one of your posts, but I don't beleive I've ever called you a name. The cheerleader thing I intend to have a lot of fun with. It will give most readers a chuckle once in a while and hopefully piss you off. However, the moron thing is a bit over the line - stop it. After over 10 years in business, building to over 20 cars with a five figure monthly utilization each, I think I'm entitled to better than moron. http://limos.infopop.cc/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

Jim, was that directed at me? So nice to see you back on the forum dishing out insults to people again. I have no comment other than to let you know I'm still here and reading. Oh, let mw go cast my vote.

Perhaps a permanent committee to keep the By-Laws in force would work. When I became a Board Member, the first thing I did was read the By-Laws. Alan Fisher( one of the NLA Founders ) encouraged me to do so. It is basic science to know how the organization is supposed to work. I know one thing for sure: I am grateful that we as an Industry have Barry Lefkowitz in our corner. He is one helluva effective lobbyist & knows how to get things done!!I wish we would have had him ten years ago. Without the effective capital hill presence that Barry brings, we would be dead in the water. Look at the TLPA-they have been working capital hill for years and they are very successful at getting their needs addressed.

As I am a Researcher for the Industry for over twenty years and a loner not given to associations of any kind, I still feel that the limousine industry will not attain it's place in the sun unless we band together with our local and National Associations- all of them. In Louisiana, Mr. Wade Randolph and myself are the senior livery operators. I work with Wade to get things done. I destroy malfeasance at any and all opportunities and like JHJ, I enjoy it. You have to start thinking of your career as a limousine operator as a CAREER!! Join all the associations that you can and let's move forward.

I would just like to see some results. I've been in this since 1994 and have been an NLA member ever since. For the first time, I am considering not renewing my membership. I have never (at least as far as I can tell) received any work because of the directory. Also, I noticed that in the latest NLA lack-of-newsletter that they are going to be charging members for the directory. Does anyone know if we would still get one free? If not, once again no benifit to joining. I don't get all the excitement about Barry L. Other then get his name and picture published what has he done to justify what he makes? According to Scott S., Barry L is paid by Cadillac and Lincoln. If that's the case, then I don't care. If he is paid by the NLA, then there is another waste of money.
Again, follow the bylaws or don't follow the bylaws, all I care about is results and as a small operator I have not seen any.
My two cents has run out. Next.....
Thumbs up to Tom Mazza. Despite my previous "bitch" post, Tom responded to the question I raised about the directory. And I have changed my mind and will be renewing. For the little bit of money it costs, I am willing to give the new folks a shot. Despite what anyone says, Tom is always willing to answer a question (even if it is not directed to him). So for all the times I have asked his help, the dues are a small price to pay.
Tom lurks around these forums, eh?
What is the answer about the directory in your post?

He said that there is no charge for the initial directory and that the charges are for anyone who needs additional copies.
As of today the stats are 2 to 1 in favor of running the NLA more like most operators run their own companies.
Can we get off Tommy now so he can get some work done?

are sole proprietorships, dimwit, and don't need to run in any particular way. Even most of those that are corporations are very marginal and can't afford to be run like a "real" corporation. And almost no operators are resonsible to other shareholders, so they can run every which way but loose. NLA purports to be a national trade association and it HAS responsibilities to its members, not that most of the industry can understand that. And I haven't noticed that anything being said here is stopping Thomas "I" Mazza from his travels - or would it be travails.

Were you ever a Judge? Seems like you'd be great at it. Or maybe they never appointed you and your bitter so you spend your time judging the NLA.
You have once again missed the point of this poll. The fact is, most folks that have voted don't want the NLA spending time answering to the king of negitivity or justifying their actions to same.
As for the "I" in Mazza, I hope he considers that a complement. "I", "ME", "I" am doing this to help limousine operators, "I" am traveling to educate limousine operators. "I" take responsibility for this association doing good for the industry. Maybe one of you old-timers, JIM, can tell us which US President had a sign on his desk that said "The buck stops here",Ike Eisenhower? "I" for one am happy as hell we have someone who beleives in "I" running the show!
Will you please shut-up now?

How you get that conclusion out of the goofy wording of the poll challenges the imagination. History teaches, however, that voters always get what they deserve. In the limousine industry, that's particularly true.

You don't have to be old if you read any history, Matt. Try Harry Truman. As for your blissfulness, remember that depression-era Germans were delighted to have Adolf running their show. A lot of Russians yearn to have Old Joe Stalin calling the shots again. Frankly, the limousine industry lacks basic intelligence and buisiness savvy that they're probably happy to let someone run the show since they can't provide any input anyhow.

Matt, attacking the messenger still won't change the facts. I know it's fun to label someone as "negative" or "mean" if you don't like what they said but if in our society everyone has a right to their opinion and their opinions should be judged according to "facts" about the issue and not the emotions of the readers. This is a free and open forum and Tom is welcome here to dispute anything that is said about the way the NLA is being run. It seems Tom is calling people in private and discussing these issues rather than publically appearing here. It makes me wonder what is up? He called me several weeks ago to discuss some of the things that have been said here. I pointed out I was one of his biggest cheerleaders last year and that I think what is said in public should be discussed in public. Now back to the NLA I will ask the question again.....Where are the benefits and results????
