View Full Version : legal question for JHJ

What legalities would be involved in creating an anti-NLA logo for my vehicles, brochures, and advertising? After several months of reading posts in here, I'm sure I will never want to join that outfit. I'm not too happy giving my insurance company all of my vin numbers, so you can bet that I wouldn't join any outfit that requires them, too.
I'm also biding my time on my LCT magazine subscription. Each month, it gets more and more useless. Same ads, same multi-million dollar companies, etc. Can anyone suggest a more useful, informative, and pleasing magazine for this industry?

The most recent copy of Limo Digest was probably the best I have received in 7 years. Also am a members of the TLPA. The limo division keeps me up to date on government issues. Always receive info way befor both magazines, but i'm sure that has to do with publishing dead lines.

Paulie, thx for the reply. Do you happen to have a subscription phone number for them?

Contact Limo Digest at 609-953-4900 x 227
Contact the TLPA office at 301-946-5700 ask for Julia Lynch. You need to become a member and get great info. They have a great offer right now.

The Anti-NLA? Interesting hook. I'm sure you'd have legal problems with it although I am not a lawyer. . . i just play one on TV. http://limos.infopop.cc/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

According to your profile you list one vehicle, but your responses imply that you have more than one vehicle. So, you don't like giving your vin numbers to your insurance company should one assume that not all your vehicles are insured?
NLA went into Michagan to kill a new city law ordiance that would require Limo operators to get a Taxi Medialan to operate. Funny thing, the limo operators had to buy them from the Taxi companies.
NLA went to BC because the Taxi companies were able to pass a law which stops Limo companies from operating sedans. The NLA was well received and it looks like this law will be repealed.
NLA is working on Capital Hill to get rid of the Gas gussler tax and help our industry with overtime issues.
My Vendor commitee helps NLA members settle disputes with other members. Money owed, warranty work, software problems. This service is only available to members.
With regards to legislations issues, you being a non member will also benefit. Not bad for a non member.

When I created my profile, I owned one stretch limousine. Since then, I have purchased two sedans, but have not rolled them over to my one million dollar policy, yet. I have not put them into service yet, as I am negotiating the purchase of a competing company. If I acquire it, I will pick-up one additional stretch Caddy, one stretched truck, and one van. I'm not quite ready to roll that many vehicles, as I'm still in my first year.
After reading the posts in here about NLA, over a period of months, I can safely say that I am NOT impresseed with the way it operates. I have never seen an organization so blatantly corrupt. I have read many of your posts. Initially I was impressed with your writings, but it seems from recent postings that your actions do not coincide with them. Why is it your organization appears to have so many problems following its own bylaws?
As for my insurance comment, it is just that I change vehicles so often that it becomes a real pain keeping up with the companies. Half the time, my agent isn't sure what I have insured. Rest assured that I keep all of my vehicles legal at ALL times.(even my personal ones)I do not feel the need to add anyone else to the list of places to report each time I make a change. Our city requires notification from the insurance company already.

Thanks for your reply. NLA is not perfect. I have stated to many that last year's election helped but it would take another election "THIS YEAR" to get the agenda I would like to see:
The NLA should only be for the following:
1. Education of its members. Provide seminars, video's etc offering a number of subjects: Driver Training, How to prepare and deal with lenders, Tax questions, etc.
2. Continue with the Congress,State and local mini's for our industry.
3. I also would like to get rid of vendors on the Board.
We need to get some people to run this year. Do you know any? As far as the insurance issue. We do need to track our members however the information is not shared with other members or vendors.
Feel free to call me on the toll free with questions or comments.
Thanks
