View Full Version : Exclusive (almost) NLA Insurance Program

April 19th, 2001, 02:23 PM
I assume that most if not all NLA members received their little note from our new president Barbara
Pastelak touting the wonderful new insurance program being offered "exclusively" to NLA members.

Well the NLA strikes again with a benefit that really is not any benefit at all. After making several telephone calls to try and find out what this new, exclusive insurance program was all about, I discover that its the same coverage that I currently have, LIMOPRO offered by the Hartford. The same insurance program that is available to any limousine operator who meets the qualifications and has the $$$$$ to pay the premium. It is not exclusive, there is no special benefit to the NLA member, there is no premium discount, NLA members pay the same price.

What this represents is a form of "thank you"
(I could use different words here) to the folks from Hartford who shelled out a bunch of bucks to the NLA and basically received nothing in return.
The letter and offer of exclusive insurance coverage is the payback to the Hartford.

Again the NLA gives you nothing. More smoke and mirrors. Offers of benefits that really mean nothing and give the operator nothing that couldn't be purchased outside of the NLA for less money.

New officers, new regime and yet the same old bulls**t continues. Smoke and mirrors, bob and weave, the ultimate shell game. What happened to
all the complaints, tirades, threats of lawsuits,
people wanting change. Seems that the more things change, the more they remain the same. The NLA becomes a shill for private interests.

NLA Marketing Tip 101: Don't advertise *exclusive* if it isn't. Don't advertise *benefit*, if there is none. Perhaps the NLA is hoping that their members aren't as smart and diligent as you to uncover such detrimental and incriminating details.

If its true and there is no real benefit or exclusivity, its in league with a con job being done on members. Shame shame.

My opinion on this subject is well known on the board. I have not been impressed with this insurance program. I ended up staying with my present company "THE NORTLAND". I got twice the coverage for $5,000 less.

This is a topic I will bring up again. If the NLA is going to endorse an insurance program its got to be the best program for the best price. This insurance progam does not make the grade with me.

John,

You are quoted above as saying, "my opinion on the subject is well known with the board"

Question: When you inform the board that this insurance is no value at all and is being promoted as such, what do the board members say?

"too bad, we make $100,000 on the endorsement?"
"the members will never know the difference"

I am really interested in the justification of this endorsement since, according to yourself, the board members are aware that the promotion of this insurance as "Beneficial" and "exclusive" is a con job.

The endorsement of this plan was already in place when I was elected two years ago. I found out how bad this program was for me when my quote came in last year. I have told several board members of my experience.

It's important to know that HRH has other insurance programs to offer to NLA members. I beleive the Hartford program was introduced by Curt Andrews. However Curt has since departed from HRH and is now associated with another insurance company. I will be bringing this subject up again at the next board meeting. Also, HRH offers other programs such as life insurance, disabilty, etc.

My advise to members is to get three quotes for your liability insurance. I am very please with Northland.

Please tell me how you come up with the 100k figure? I will then compare your notes to mine. Money was given to the NLA but your number seems high. We did receive a check of 45k two months ago.

John,

Thanks for the info -- the $100K was just a random guess I threw out there -- I have no information on how much the NLA received for giving their endorsement.

I attended an NLA meeting in Orlando that
Mr Curt "BLOWIN SMOKE" Andrews stated he had a great health insurance plan for NLA members???
Gee another great endorsement of the NLA Curt Andrew and HRH, oh yea thats right he don't work there anymore (why is he on the broad, oh sorry I mean on the Board)? Lets not forget the good and successfull endorsements like Castile's safety program, that enormously fantastic software program that all the members still use. Oh, lets not forget all the money we have saved on gas guzzler fees! So everyone step up and pay attention to those faxes and send more money to support those rep's in Washington.
How much money does a "non profit" organization need in their bank account?
Why should anybody believe these NLA guys, like Scott S doesn't have their own agenda? If these big boys really cared about the small operators they would pay them in 45 days, DUH! Maybe if they paid their affiliates they could send them money for these tinkerbell causes.
Lets endorse something worthwhile like the Roto Rooter Man.
Hey even Big Pussy came back for one episode!!
