Is there a site that can be viewed like the "Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission Bureau of Transportation & Safety" for NJ Ocean County?...Or can somebody explain to me what are the requirements for the limo business; (1) Is there a problem obtaining a limousine license; (2) Is there a limit to the amount of cars I can have; (3) Cost of insurance and all legal fees; (4) Can a private dueling be used as the main base for operating the business?...I know that from state to state laws differ. I am a cdl holder and have been driving for a small transportation company in Ocean County NJ for the last 6 years.

Thank you in anticipation.

In New Jersey you have to obtain a "certificate of compliance" in the municipality that you plan on basing you business. With this certificate you simply go to DMV and register the vehicle. Since July 1, 2001, you no longer pay the 6% sales tax in NJ for a limousine vehicle. As for operating your business. That would depend upon your town and where you garage the vehicles. As for insurance. In order to obtain "limousine" license plates you must provide proof of insurance. The NJ minimum is $1.5 million. Hope I answered some of your questions.

Thank you for your prompt reply Monte Carlo.

You say I need to obtain a certificate of compliance in my municipality. Is this a straightforward thing to do, or is it lengthy with a hearing and a waiting period and what are the fees?…My question now is; will I be reimbursed the 6% tax after I obtain my limousine plates? Obviously I need to get a vehicle before I go to DMV…Finally do you have any idea how much insurance “approximately” for a four-door Mercury GM would be?
