Hello, I am looking forward to opening a limo comp. in Ontario canada, and was wondering if the process was simmilar in the US. I have been told at the licencing office that i have 2 choices to go about this.
#1 Talk to companies that are in need of such services (limo) and bring back contracts that will guarantee a minimum of 35hrs of work/week.
#2 Go and visit existing limo bussiness and tell them my intentions, give them the rates that I want to charge and ask if they wood hire me kind of as a (owner/operator).And hope the are kind enough to do so.
What would you guys suggest? How should i approach existing buss.,.
I thought this process is weird, kind of being on mercy of existing companies. Once I get my first car in, the next should be easier as i am the one stating i have enough bussiness to support the next car, its the first that seems to be the toughest.
Is the process simmilar in the US? Please your input is greatly appreciated.
Thank You.

Rexio,
What part of Ontario are you in? Join the Ontario Limousine Owners Assc. (http://www.oloa.ca). What sort of limousine company do you want to own? There are lots of companies that will hire IO's in Toronto. Most owner operators dont go past one car though. There are thousands of ways to start a limousine company however you'll have to do the leg work yourself. There is a ton of information though out this forum, just use the search funtion.
Good Luck

I'm looking to own one car for a while until I get enough clienttel to support the next one, :however if a company would hire me I would not go after their costumers, I dont think thats the right way to go about things, especially when i plan to be in this business for the long run. I want to start off small, one stretch, pref. an suv. Not looking to get rich in this bussiness, just looking to earn a comfortable living doing what I love.
On the other note, i recentley came accross a 30 pass. hummer, 250"stretch, and was wondering if those are legal in ontario.
Oh, and by the way I/m from Mississauga.
thanks for the input.

Hi, Rexio. Did you have any luck in starting your company? I was doing the groundworks myself for starting a company of my own. Any suggestions or tips for me are really appreciated.
Good luck with your company.

I don't know about Canada, but a 250-inch Hummer may not be the way to go for a new shop in the US. The vehicle is expensive; the maintenance and upkeep will cost a lot; it will suck gas like there is no tomorrow, and with a seating capacity of 30, it will be difficult to fill on a regular basis.
You can run LTC sedans every day, and a Lincoln 120 will be relatively easy to charter and fill too. A lot of guys jump in with huge SUVs, and they disappear just as quickly.
Do the research and see what is rolling on a regular basis in your area.
Good Luck!
