SAN FRANCISCO -- Police believe a limousine driver purposely ran his vehicle into lion dancers in a parade in San Francisco's Chinatown Saturday night, injuring three.
Police said the 44-year-old driver was driving Gail Neira, a Republican candidate for the 13th district of the state assembly. Police said Neira told the limo driver to slow down, and was shaken after the collision.
"Basically based on what the suspect said it seems as though it was an intentional act. The person that was being driven in the limousine told the driver to slow down and actually told him to stop as he started to speed up," Neville Gittens, of the San Francisco Police Department, said.
An 11-year-old and a 15-year-old were treated and released, but a 22-year-old was in critical condition Saturday night with a broken leg and broken ribs.
The driver faces charges of attempted murder and driving under the influence.

Candidate's driver held in parade ramming
San Francisco police Saturday arrested a state Assembly candidate's limousine driver on attempted murder charges after he allegedly drove into three participants in a parade, leaving one man in critical condition.
The driver, identified as Jeff Cabrere, 44, was booked on three charges of attempted murder and a charge of being under the influence of unspecified drugs, said San Francisco police Sgt. Neville Gittens.
Cabrere was driving Gail Neira, a Republican running for the Assembly seat held by Carole Migden, D-San Francisco, in the ``10-10'' parade celebrating the Oct. 10 anniversary of Taiwanese independence.
At 5:05 p.m., the Lincoln limousine Cabrere was driving struck two children and an adult walking in the parade in the 800 block of Stockton Street, Gittens said. A 22-year-old man was taken to San Francisco General Hospital in critical condition with chest and pelvic injuries, he said.
A 14-year-old girl and an 11-year-old boy were treated at the hospital and released, Gittens said.
Officers driving Cabrere to the police station allegedly heard him say ``I hope somebody's dead,'' Gittens said.
Neira tried to get her driver to stop, Gittens said. She was unavailable for comment.
The case remains under investigation. While all the victims are Asian, no hate-crime charges have been alleged.
